| | 🧡💜 Local Nonprofit Fights Alzheimer's Through Community Support. The Alzheimer's Project, a Tallahassee-based nonprofit serving the Big Bend region for 34 years, provides essential services to those affected by memory disorders and their caregivers. The organization offers multiple support programs at no cost to families, including: Day Respite (Social Club): Provides engaging activities for individuals with dementia while giving caregivers much-needed personal time Support Groups: Creates spaces where caregivers can share challenges and connect with others in similar situations Caregiver Training: Educates on best practices for dementia care AmeriCorp Program: Delivers in-home care specifically for military veterans with memory issues Resource Manual: Guides caregivers to additional vital services
"Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's is extremely difficult. It's lonely. And it's physically and emotionally exhausting," says Brian Delaney, Interim Executive Director of the Alzheimer's Project. "Our mission is to be there for caregivers when they need us most." The Growing Challenge: Alzheimer's disease represents a growing crisis nationwide. Currently affecting 5.7M Americans at an annual cost of $277B, projections indicate these numbers will rise to approximately 14M people by 2050 with costs reaching $1.1T. The disease claims more lives than breast and prostate cancer combined. Critical Funding Opportunity: The dollar-for-dollar match means every contribution has twice the impact in supporting local families affected by Alzheimer's disease and related memory disorders. "An extraordinary opportunity has emerged," Delaney explains. "A generous supporter has pledged to match all donations up to $35,000, but only if we can raise these funds before April 30." How to Help: Today’s the last day to participate in the dollar-for-dollar match, donate securely here or send a check to Alzheimer’s Project; 301 East Tharpe Street; Tallahassee, FL 32303
