| | ✨ Pamela Keel has been awarded the highest faculty honor by FSU. | FSU News Pamela Keel, a psychologist known for her impactful contributions in research, teaching, and service, has been named as Florida State University’s 2025–2026 Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor, which is the highest accolade the university can offer to its faculty. She is the fifth psychologist to earn this distinction since the award was established in 1957. “Her work reflects the best of what we strive for as a university — research that changes lives, service that strengthens community and a commitment to lifting others along the way. We’re proud to have her join the high ranks of Florida State University’s Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professors,” said FSU President Richard McCullough. 👏 Keel became a professor in FSU’s psychology department in December 2008 and was promoted to Distinguished Research Professor a decade later. From 2013 to 2016, she directed the department’s APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program, which played a key role in securing substantial federal funding for FSU. In addition to her groundbreaking research, Keel is recognized for her outstanding teaching and mentorship, which reaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students, as well as fellow faculty and researchers. She has also made important contributions to both the university and the wider academic community through her dedicated service. The Lawton Distinguished Professor Award was first presented in 1957 as the Distinguished Professor Award. In 1981, it was renamed to pay tribute to the late Robert O. Lawton, who served as Vice President for Academic Affairs. Keel will be honored at events throughout the year and will give an address at fall commencement.
