| | 💻 Cyberattacks Target Florida Health Providers. | GovTech Cybercriminals stole $3.6M from Central Florida Cares, a nonprofit mental health provider, after an employee fell for a fake banking website. Though $1.9M was recovered through insurance, the attack prompted stricter security and staff training. 🛡️ Since July 2023, at least 35 Florida healthcare organizations have reported data breaches, compromising the personal data of over 6.7M patients. This includes DermCare and Apollo Medical, where thousands of records were exposed. Tampa General Hospital was also affected, settling a class action lawsuit for $6.7M after a breach that put 2.1M patients at risk. Fortunately, its defenses stopped the hacker from encrypting critical files. 🗃️ Thriving Mind South Florida reported a breach in 2023 that exposed the data of 225,000 people — including medical records and financial information. The breach is now the focus of a class action lawsuit in Miami-Dade County. The Florida Department of Health suffered a major leak, with 20,000+ files published on the dark web. Experts say healthcare often underinvests in cybersecurity, making it a prime target for phishing, outdated systems, and massive financial loss.
