| | 🔆 Oneplanet has obtained a $14.5M federal clean energy tax credit for its flagship solar panel recycling facility located in Florida. | PR Newswire Established in 2023, OnePlanet Solar Recycling (OnePlanet) provides a wide range of services, such as logistics support, recycling certificates, and the recycling of broken solar panels and related components. The company's diverse expertise, which merges metals manufacturing and recycling with solar development and finance, establishes it as a frontrunner in the solar recycling sector. OnePlanet, a Jacksonville-based startup, has raised $7M in seed funding to further develop its $90M solar panel recycling facility in Green Cove Springs, Florida. The River City Project aims to recycle more than 2M end-of-life photovoltaic modules each year by 2027, with plans to increase that number to 6M modules annually by 2030. The facility will employ artificial intelligence and sensors to extract up to 97% of precious metals like copper, aluminum, and silver from retired solar panels. 🌎 The investment was spearheaded by Khasma Capital, an investment firm located in New York that focuses on the circular economy and emerging energy transition assets. Khasma's funding demonstrates an increasing acknowledgment from institutions that solar recycling represents a vital upstream opportunity essential for maintaining large-scale clean energy growth in the U.S. The project has obtained a $14.5M federal clean energy tax credit through the Inflation Reduction Act, underscoring the government's backing for renewable energy infrastructure. The River City Project is anticipated to bring about substantial economic advantages, such as the creation of new employment opportunities and the decrease of landfill waste from old solar panels. With the increasing demand for clean energy, OnePlanet's initiative signifies an important move towards establishing a sustainable and circular economy within the solar sector.
