| Magneto vs. Tech City. MagLab researchers are teaming up with FSU computer scientists to harness the world’s strongest magnets and uncover new scientific breakthroughs. Tallahassee may be the home town of Magneto IRL, but for good of course. Meanwhile, in Alachua, a small town with deep roots is steadily growing its tech footprint, another proof that innovation isn’t limited to major metros. Our CEO, Julia Holly, had the opportunity to attend the Greater Tallahassee Chamber Annual Community Conference (LinkedIn) for a few days before heading to Orlando for her daughter’s college move in day at UCF. Shout out to Eddie (CEO, Ruvos) for the opportunity to plug CityClips at the Shark Tank Pitch Session, where representatives presented economic development for magnetics, healthcare, IT, and manufacturing.

| | 🤝 MagLab and FSU Computer Scientists Join Forces to Tackle Big Data. | MagLab The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (MagLab) has partnered with Florida State University’s Computer Science Department to address the enormous data output from its powerful Ion Cyclotron Resonance (ICR) facility, which is central to groundbreaking molecular research. 🧬 Significant upgrades to the lab’s mass spectrometers have increased data production by a staggering thousand-fold, transforming a steady stream of information into a flood and creating new challenges and opportunities for analyzing everything from human proteins to persistent environmental contaminants. 🔍 Under the leadership of Professor Gary Tyson, FSU computer scientists have designed new algorithms to refine data processing, improve organization and search capabilities, enhance visualization, and even make it possible to mine valuable insights from two decades of archived data. The collaboration also involves developing an AI-powered chatbot that enables researchers from around the globe to easily query datasets, run complex analyses, and automatically generate publication-ready figures, streamlining the path from raw data to research breakthroughs. These advancements are expected to open the door to faster and deeper discoveries in areas such as cleaner-burning fuels, the ecological effects of wildfires, and the human proteome, helping scientists uncover insights that were previously hidden in mountains of data.

| 🏘️ Alachua, FL: Small-Town Roots with Big-Tech Vision | Civil Municipal Alachua blends historic Main Street charm with forward-thinking innovation, home to projects like the solar-powered San Felasco Tech City — a thriving hub for more than 65 tech companies. The city pairs smart growth with sustainable infrastructure, from debt-free electric substations delivering the lowest residential power rates in Florida to proactive water and wastewater capacity planning. Located just nine miles from the University of Florida, Alachua taps into a strong talent pipeline while offering a community-focused lifestyle. Its proximity to nature, including 7,000 acres of trails and 30 mi of bike paths, supports a live-work-play environment that appeals to both global companies and families. 👨👩👧👦 The city is addressing Florida’s housing shortage head-on, with more than 2,000 residential units in various stages of planning and development. This comes after a decade of rapid commercial growth, ensuring housing keeps pace with economic expansion. Main Street revitalization remains a key priority, with the Community Redevelopment Agency investing in beautification, façade grants, and events like the harvest festival, Christmas parade, and tree lighting. The unique, winding layout of the street allows for easy event hosting without major traffic disruption. Local entrepreneurs, like Michele Lee of Optimal Station and Good Life Station, showcase Alachua’s blend of tradition and tech. By offering workshops, business training, and community events, they help small businesses adapt to new technologies while strengthening the city’s collaborative spirit and economic vitality. ✨
