| | 🩺 FSU’s College of Medicine has welcomed 131 new physician residents and fellows into its Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs statewide. | FSU News With 9 health care partners, FSU GME now offers 26 programs, with the new class joining over 264 physicians already in training. “We continue to expand our GME programs to directly address Florida’s growing physician shortage and to improve access to outstanding health care, particularly in rural and underserved communities,” said Dr. Alma Littles, dean of the College of Medicine. The FSU GME program has been rapidly expanding. Since July, it has taken on sponsorship of two fellowships with the Andrews Research & Education Foundation at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze, four residency programs at Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals in Northwest Florida, and both the family medicine residency and OB/GYN fellowship at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH). Statistics show a 75% retention rate for physicians who attend medical school and complete their residencies in Florida. A recent study released by the Safety Net Hospital Alliance of Florida, FSU-sponsored residency programs rank among the most in-demand in the state, examining the percentage of available residency slots filled by medical school graduates in 75 Florida hospitals and other health care providers between 2020 and 2024. The College of Medicine graduates about 120 new physicians each year, most of whom stay in Florida for residency. With its latest class, the college now has over 2,000 alumni, including more than 600 practicing or training across the state. 👩🏻⚕️🧑🏻⚕️
