| | | Music & Robotic Rabbits. We are getting new subscribers every week and we are thankful for it. For the new folks, we stay in our lane of spreading insightful information without drama and noise. While yesterday was filled with violence across town, as well as the nation, our thoughts goes out to the victims affected. We hope you can find something here to brighten up your week. Carrying that spirit of unity forward, let’s rally behind TLH Downtown and help secure the Levitt Foundation grant – it could bring a free, three-year outdoor music series to our city! If you haven’t seen it yet, take a stroll and spot the three new sculptures now installed as part of Sculpture Scape TLH, adding bold flair to our public spaces. Let’s also hope for heightened security in the area for the safety of our community. Turning to regional updates, after the excitement of the Python Challenge, Florida's next move in the fight against invasive snakes: robotic rabbits. Yes – really. 🐍🐇

| 💚 Vote Tallahassee Downtown for Levitt Music Series Grant! The Council on Culture & Arts (COCA) and Tallahassee Downtown are teaming up to bring a free, three-year outdoor music series to the city, competing for a national Levitt Music Series Grant worth up to $120,000. 💰 The Levitt Foundation grant helps nonprofits turn underused public spaces into lively music spots by hosting 7–10 free concerts each year from 2026 to 2028. Tallahassee is one of over 100 U.S. communities moving on to the public voting round. ✨ In keeping with Levitt’s commitment to community-driven programs, your vote will help choose the top 50 finalists for the 2026-2028 Levitt Music Series. These finalists could receive up to $120K in matching funds to host free outdoor concerts. Tallahassee Downtown currently hosts free music events such as Music Under the Oaks in Lewis Park, part of the Chain of Parks in the city’s downtown. If awarded, the grant would support the continuation and expansion of similar events for the next three years. To vote, residents can do so online or by text until September 15, at 5 p.m. PT, or by texting "TALLY" to 877-409-5525.

| | 🐇🐍 Florida Moves From Python Challenge to Robotic Rabbits in Battle Against Invasive Snakes. | People Officials estimate that pythons have greatly reduced populations of 95% small mammals and thousands of birds in Florida’s Everglades National Park. The Water Management District says finding these semiaquatic snakes is the hardest part – and that’s where the robotic bunnies come in. “Removing them is easy. It’s finding them that’s tough,” said Mike Kirkland, the district’s lead invasive animal biologist. “They blend in so well out there.” With the annual python challenge over, Florida officials are now testing a new method to manage invasive Burmese pythons – using robotic bunnies. Researchers tried 120 robot rabbits that look, sound, and smell like Everglades marsh rabbits. Using live rabbits in the past was costly and time-consuming, Kirkland noted. He said that the $4,000 toy bunnies, funded by the Water District, are upgraded to give off heat, scent, and movement. They're solar-powered and placed in camera-monitored pens. When a python shows up, someone is sent to catch it. DYK? Burmese pythons are believed to have arrived in South Florida as pets in the 1980s. According to the FWC, Burmese pythons are not native to Florida but have established a large population over the years. This new elimination project comes just a month after the end of the challenge, in which hunters from across the country are given the chance to win a $10,000 Ultimate Grand Prize for removing these species from the Florida Everglades during a 10-day hunt. | Learn More According to CBS News, since 2000, over 23,000 pythons have been captured and removed from the Everglades.
