TRUIST X THE CHAMBER

🩵 The Truist Foundation awards the Greater Tallahassee Chamber Foundation $50,000 grant to boost workforce development. | The Chamber of Commerce

  • The region’s economy is growing, but gaps remain: job seekers often don’t meet employers’ needs; many companies prioritize formal degrees over skills, and high-demand sectors like healthcare face significant worker shortages.

  • To tackle these challenges, the Chamber Foundation will use the grant to boost talent development efforts that connect job seekers, educators, and employers. The funding will support skills-based hiring, build talent pipelines, and enhance collaboration among workforce partners.

  • Truist is excited to continue to further invest in our long-standing partnership with The Greater Tallahassee Chamber Foundation, which supports one of our Foundation’s significant pillars, Building Career Pathways to Economic Mobility,” said Chris Mills, Market President with Truist. 🤩

  • Some specific programs or strategies that the grant will fund:

    • Skills‑Based Hiring & Employee Practices: Workshops based on the Jobs for the Future (JFF) framework will help employers improve hiring, onboarding, job postings, and retention practices.

    • Talent Pipeline Management (TPM): Partnering with Tallahassee State College, Lively Technical College, and Leon County Schools to create talent pipelines for high-demand jobs, especially in healthcare and other critical sectors.

    • Talent Development Council (TDC): Facilitating coordination among workforce partners–such as CareerSource Capital Region, vocational rehab, and schools–to meet monthly, share resources, align training and education, and engage stakeholders more effectively.

🎙️ David Cummings on CityClips Live Ep. 98.

  • Julia had the pleasure of featuring David Cummings, an Atlanta-based serial entrepreneur and CEO of Atlanta Ventures. | CityClips Live Ep. 98

  • Atlanta Ventures is a venture studio and investment firm that supports entrepreneurs in the Southeastern U.S. by investing in and scaling subscription-based startups through funding, guidance, and community resources.

  • Here are the takeaways of his interview with Julia:

    • David’s entrepreneurial journey began with childhood coding. He founded Hannon Hill in college, then went on to co-found Pardot, a B2B marketing platform later acquired by ExactTarget and Salesforce.

    • He was an early investor in Calendly, recognizing its potential in simplifying scheduling. He also founded Atlanta Tech Village, a startup-focused coworking space dedicated to supporting tech founders and early-stage companies. Today, it stands as one of the largest tech hubs in the U.S., fostering community, mentorship, and access to capital.

    • 🧡 Advice for Tallahassee: David encourages Tallahassee to prioritize tech entrepreneurship at the city level by creating shared workspaces, supporting founders, and fostering a strong community culture. He emphasizes the importance of local government and businesses “buying local,” since the best startup financing often comes from gaining new customers–especially when those customers are local supporters of emerging startups.

    • He highlights that strong startups typically have a balanced founding team made up of a Hacker (technical builder), a Hipster (design and product expert), and a Hustler (sales and business development leader).
