| | 🎾💰 Major League Pickleball Team Acquired for $16M in South Florida. | West Orlando News Hyperspace Ventures (Hyperspace), a group of UNC-Chapel Hill alumni and tech entrepreneurs, acquired a Major League Pickleball team in South Florida for a record $16M, making the Palm Beach Royals the city’s first major professional sports team. Before the Royals had jerseys, courts, or a $16M valuation, there was a vision from three former UNC tennis teammates. Taylor Meyer, Zach Hunter, and Alex Rafiee founded Hyperspace in Raleigh in 2017, starting in software and product development before channeling their passion for racquet sports into something bigger. Hyperspace blends expertise in tech and competitive sports, with over $21M invested in pickleball, including $5.3M in Pickleball Inc. The Royals are set to become the 23rd team in Major League Pickleball, joining after a landmark 2025 season marked by record-breaking growth in attendance, broadcast reach, and sponsorships. “Palm Beach is ready for its first major pro team,” said Hunter. “We’re building the Royals to compete at the highest level and to become a team that defines the next era of Major League Pickleball. Just like Palm Beach itself, the Royals will embody prestige, energy, and a world-class brand that makes this community special.” The Royals plan to host matches, youth clinics, and community pickleball festivals throughout Palm Beach County, partnering with local businesses to make pickleball a lasting part of the region’s sports culture.
