| | 💸📈 Leon County and Tallahassee Residents Face New Fees and Rising Costs in 2026. What’s in your wallet will be a bit less next year under new property tax rates and other fees. | Tal Dem Property: The city and county didn’t raise property tax rates during September’s public hearings—but that doesn’t guarantee your bills won’t increase. Even with stable or slightly lower tax rates, rising property values, which increased nearly 8% in 2025, mean city and county tax bills for homes and businesses are likely to increase. The fire services fee, which overshadowed budget talks this year after the city moved forward with an increase that the county continues to oppose, is also rising, but only within the city. Most city residents will face nearly a 10% increase in the fee, or about $2 each, while non-residential property owners will see a larger increase. City commissioners initially planned to proceed in the fiscal year that started Oct. 1 with a property tax rate of $4.42 for every $1,000 of property value, the same as last year’s rate. However, that got upended after City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow announced he wouldn’t support the rate because of his opposition to the city’s decision to raise fire service fees unilaterally without approval by county commissioners. Leon County's new tax rate will raise more than $15M in additional revenue. County commissioners signed off on a general property tax rate of $8.3144 and an Emergency Medical Services tax rate of 0.75¢ for every $1,000 of property value. Waste Collection & City Cemetery: City commissioners unanimously approved several other increases, which will go from $25.77/mo to $26.83 for residential curbside service and from $58.81 to $61.23/mo for premium service. The cost of a single burial plot in a city cemetery increased, too, from $1,047 to $1,600. That’s a jump of nearly 53%.
