| | ✈️📲 From chatbot travel assistants to AI-generated Instagram itineraries, new technology is transforming the way we plan vacations. | Thrillist Travel is rapidly transforming. AI is now heavily integrated into digital travel agencies and navigation, offering innovative features like converting IG reels into travel plans and screenshots into personalized maps. These advancements have largely made traditional vacation itineraries obsolete. AI tools are changing how trips are booked, offering new features for travelers to use or explore: Priceline uses new AI tools for trip planning. Features include a neighborhood finder to suggest local areas and the Trip Vibe Selector (e.g., Party Mode) to match areas to desired atmosphere. An AI assistant, Penny, also helps users find suitable hotels based on their criteria. Expedia recently launched Trip Matching, a new AI tool that turns IG Reels into full itineraries. Users just need to DM a reel to their IG account to receive a complete schedule, including hotel and activity recommendations. This tool, currently in beta, is the first to directly translate a social media post into a bookable travel plan and will roll out to U.S. users soon. Parks Project, an outdoor retailer, now offers Parks Guide, a virtual planner for national park info, hiking trails, and packing tips. However, the store's use of AI is noted as being out of character given its mission of sustainability, as AI is known to increase carbon emissions. Google Maps now features a tool that scans screenshots in your camera roll to create a private list of places. It identifies location names in screenshots (like a restaurant's IG story) and automatically saves them to a "Screenshots" list found under the You tab in the app.
