OPPORTUNITY TLH

👩🏻🧑🏽 Leadership Tallahassee hosted Opportunity Tallahassee event at ParkView Cascades.

  • Opportunity Tallahassee is an intensive, one-day program that provides a comprehensive overview of the community's physical, social, economic, and educational structure. Participants meet key decision-makers and gain contacts and resources to effectively engage with community issues.

  • The program offers corporate executives, managers, and other new professionals a fast, minimal-time overview of the community. It's a valuable alternative for leaders too busy for the time-intensive Leadership Tallahassee program.

  • ✨ Highlights for this year’s day-long program include:

    • Networking with 40+ fellow participants dedicated to improving Tallahassee.

    • Community leaders, including Mayor Dailey and local business owners, shared their insights.

    • Joined tours and presentations showcasing Tallahassee’s newest hubs for industry, entertainment, and recreation.

    • Explored how media, public safety, healthcare, and higher education strengthen Tallahassee’s business foundation through exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences.

    • Joined an end-of-day reception at Amicus Brewing for group trivia, performance of Tallahassee Youth Symphony, and (LT) alumni members.

REMEMBRANCE DINNER

💙🫂 HERC Hosted 14th Annual Remembrance Dinner

  • The Holocaust Education Resource Council (HERC), a Tallahassee nonprofit organization, provides educators, students, and the public with resources, training, and programs that preserve the history of the Holocaust while promoting tolerance, respect, and human dignity.

  • They welcomed over 400 guests to its 14th Annual Dinner, held at the Dunlap Champion's Club. The evening featured keynote speaker Dara Horn, award-winning author of People Love Dead Jews, and honored Bill Graham and Shelley Hill with the Steve Uhlfelder Humanitarian Award. "The Remembrance Dinner is an important event that highlights the necessity for Holocaust education," said Barbara Goldstein, HERC's Executive Director.

  • The event raised almost $150k, which will directly fund HERC's programs such as teacher training workshops, classroom resources, and community education initiatives.

  • Founded in 2005 by Barbara Goldstein and Rita Miller Blank, daughters of Holocaust survivors, HERC has provided educators and the public with resources and training to teach the Holocaust accurately and empathetically. The Dinner is now a signature annual event, honoring survivors and community leaders while reinforcing HERC's mission to build hope.

  • 🤝 HERC has been the leading advocate for Holocaust education in North Florida. Supporting them goes beyond helping teachers and students; you’re investing in a more compassionate, understanding, and inclusive world. | Testimonials

✨ Clausell Family Memorial Way Unveiling

  • On Oct. 29th, the City of Tallahassee, joined by community members, honored the life and legacy of the late Rev. Dr. James A. Clausell and Rev. Dr. Bernyce Hall Clausell during a ceremony unveiling Clausell Family Memorial Way. | Watch on YT

  • The honorary street designation of Alabama St. from Arkansas St. to Old Bainbridge Rd. commemorates the late Griffin Heights power couple, celebrated for their lifelong commitment to ministry, volunteer service, and civil rights leadership.

  • The Clausells, a prominent Griffin Heights couple, built Calvary Baptist Church in 1958 with their own funds. He was a pastor, she was a school teacher with degrees from Florida A&M, and together they raised two daughters while actively bringing neighborhood children to Sunday School and church. Both were also active in the Civil Rights Movement.

  • Rev. Dr. James Clausell led the Baptist State Convention and worked on Operation Breadbasket, an economic empowerment program designed to uplift Black communities nationwide. During the years that followed, until her death in 2015 at the age of 98, Rev. Dr. Bernyce Clausell continued her work in the community. In 2009, she was a recipient of the Oasis Center for Women and Girls' Trailblazer Award.
