| | 💾 Florida Stands at a Pivotal Crossroads for Data Center Growth. | Tal Dem If a single data center in the Big Bend were built, it could instantly become the region’s top taxpayer, far surpassing even major sites like the $250M Amazon Fulfillment Center. A 600MW facility would represent over 30 times that investment, driving a massive increase in property value and tax revenue. Data centers offer more than tech — they bring lasting investment, skilled jobs, and vital tax revenue for schools and infrastructure. With rising demand for AI and cloud services, Florida has a real chance to lead. But it will take planning, leadership, and a united push for smart growth. Florida just extended its sales tax exemption for data centers by 10 years – a move solidified by Governor DeSantis’ recent signature. This long-term policy sends a clear message: the state is open for major tech investment. The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is reviewing a Florida Power & Light rate case, and the Public Counsel has suggested delaying decisions on data center-related issues. But postponing would undercut recent state efforts by both the legislature and governor to attract data center investment and boost Florida’s tech economy. With support from utilities and the PSC, the state is proving that it can welcome innovation while protecting consumers, exactly the balanced approach needed for data-driven demands. 📡
